Iglesias asks Díaz to rectify because the veto of Montero will have costs on 23J and part of the left sees it as shameful

He stresses that there must be conditions of "loyalty" to cover attacked leaders and that the opposite is to resemble the PSOE

MADRID, 12 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former Vice President Pablo Iglesias has urged the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, to rectify the exclusion of the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, from the electoral list for the 23J elections, given that she will have electoral costs for her project and she will regret it with time.

He has also warned that there are striking "silences" from some colleagues and that there is part of the left, both national and international, who consider that the veto of the leader of Podemos is a "shame."

In statements to Rac1, collected by Europa Press, Iglesias stressed that what happened with Montero is a "painful" situation and that Yolanda Díaz's "veto" is a "terrible mistake" that "can harm a political space ( Add) essential" so that PP and Vox do not govern in the next legislature.

"There are still eight days left (for the registration of the electoral lists). I know that even in Yolanda Díaz's environment there are many sectors that are telling her 'you have gone too far'," Iglesias emphasized.

The former leader of Podemos has also criticized the fact that Montero's absence from Sumar's candidacy sends a "difficult message of disciplining" on the left, since it implies getting rid of leaders in the feminist struggle who have been the object of "political violence" by of the right and the extreme right.

"I hope he rectifies", Iglesias stressed to underline that Montero has not stopped receiving support during these days, even from people who keep "a silence" that he believes "that what he reveals is shame for what is happening".

After censoring that he appreciates "celebration" in certain media spaces regarding this exclusion, Iglesias has highlighted that "many people understand that this (the veto of Montero) is bad not only for Podemos, but for the space's own electoral expectations and that this Has no sense".

"It is logical that the right tries to throw you off your horse, but that your own colleagues say 'you don't'; I think that this sends a message that beyond ethical issues, beyond what that represents, it is a political error," he said. Iglesias insisted.

What's more, he has stressed that "minimum codes of loyalty" must prevail on the left and that without that they are "dead." In line, he has stressed that he has the legitimacy to express himself in this regard because he went to visit the ERC leader, Oriol Junqueras, and the "jordis" in jail, when they were convicted of the 'Procés', knowing that this could have costs electoral.

He has also remarked that he had "the phone open" for the former vice president of the Catalan Generalitat Carles Puigdemont even when he was "exiled" from the country, since "the left has to be decent in the sense of not looking the other way" when situations arise such as that of the pro-independence leaders or 'lawfare', as the acting mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, has suffered, in her opinion, for example.

"Whoever gets crushed must be defended. I remember perfectly in the government negotiation when Pedro Sánchez said no to Jaume Asens, we are not going to accept it because he defended Puigdemont (...) and our response was to make Jaume Asens president of the parliamentary group of the confederal United We Can", has highlighted the same to influence that with the group's spokesman, Pablo Echenique, when he was also attacked.

Therefore, he has reaffirmed that "this way of doing politics has to be a hallmark of the left", otherwise they can become "professional politicians who assume cynicism and injustice as the key to functioning".

Likewise, he has reaffirmed that anyone can make a "mistake", but he is convinced that Díaz will regret it if he does not correct the exclusion with Montero, perhaps not immediately but over time.

Finally, he stressed that acting by vetoing the Minister for Equality is giving a "victory to the mafia" and that in a context of "media violence and sewers", doing without people beaten by "unassailable" profiles is behaving "the closest thing to the PSOE".
