Fred Vasseur, new Ferrari team boss

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Frenchman Fred Vasseur, until now Alfa Romeo team leader, will be the new general manager and director of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, replacing Mattia Binotto, the 'Scuderia' confirmed on Tuesday.

Vasseur, who will take up his new position on January 9, has more than 25 years of experience in the motorsport world, from junior formulas to Formula 1, where he has worked for the last decade. During his time in the GP2 Series, he helped Nico Rosberg (2005) and Lewis Hamilton (2006) to become champions.

Since 2017, the Frenchman has held the position of CEO and Team Principal of Sauber Motorsport, currently Alfa Romeo F1 Team, and before that, in 2016, he was Team Principal of Renault F1 Team.

"I am truly delighted and proud to assume the leadership of Ferrari as team boss. As someone who has always had a passion for motorsport, Ferrari has always represented the pinnacle of the racing world. I look forward to working with the talented and passionate team de Maranello to honor the history and legacy of the 'Scuderia' and bring joy to our 'tifosi' around the world", said Vasseur.

For his part, the CEO of Ferrari, Benedetto Vigna, acknowledged that they are "delighted" with the arrival of the French leader. "Throughout his career, he has successfully combined his technical strengths as a trained engineer with a consistent ability to bring out the best in his drivers and teams. This focus and his leadership are what we need to propel Ferrari forward with renewed energy." ended.

On November 29, the Italian Mattia Binotto resigned as Ferrari team manager, a "correct step" despite the fact that it was a "hard moment" after 28 years with the 'Prancing Horse'.
