FIFA opens disciplinary proceedings against the Uruguay Association and Giménez, Cavani, Godín and Muslera

BERLIN, 5 Dec. (STATS Perform/dpa/EP) -

FIFA announced this Monday that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Uruguayan Football Association and against the players José María Giménez, Edinson Cavani, Diego Godín and Fernando Muslera for their protests and reactions after the elimination from the World Cup in Qatar last Friday.

The two-time world champions failed to get out of Group H despite a 2-0 win in their third match against Ghana as South Korea beat Portugal 2-1 and came one more goal away from claiming their ticket. The Uruguayan players left the pitch very angry and protesting the failure to signal a penalty for Cavani.

In videos on social networks it was possible to see how the Valencia striker pushed the VAR monitor after the final whistle, while other Uruguayan players surrounded the German referee Daniel Siebert.

FIFA detailed that those involved are accused of misconduct, offensive and discriminatory behavior, and pointed directly to Cavani, Godín, Giménez and Muslera, who are being investigated separately for alleged offenses of offensive behavior, violations of the principles of fair play and bad behavior.

On the other hand, FIFA also revealed that Serbia would also face charges for misconduct, discrimination and failure to maintain order and security after their 3-2 defeat against Switzerland last Friday and that also cost them the World Cup elimination.
