Ferran Bel, from PDeCAT, will chair the new commission of investigation on the 'sewers' of the Interior

MADRID, 28 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PDeCAT spokesman, Ferran Bel, will finally be the one who chairs the new congressional investigation commission on the so-called 'sewers' of the Ministry of the Interior during the Mariano Rajoy government, the fourth body of this type that he has created since 2017 to carry out investigations on matters that affect the PP.

As confirmed to Europa Press by parliamentary sources, on this occasion the PSOE had no interest in taking over the Presidency of this commission and in the end it has ended up offering the position to Ferran Bel, who a priori was not even registered in the commission of investigation, which has forced a change of names in the Plural Group. The election of the pro-independence deputy will take place this Tuesday, when the commission is set up.

The Plenary agreed to re-investigate this matter last September, but did nothing further until the beginning of this month, when the period for each group to designate its commissioners opened. It was after ERC, Junts, PDeCAT, the CUP, Bildu and the BNG demanded that this first step be taken. Finally, it will be constituted six months after approval and the first appearances could coincide with the run-up to the local elections.

The pro-independence formations were the ones that promoted the opening of this new investigation last June. His initial intention was to open investigations into the alleged interference with the sovereignty of the Principality of Andorra by Spanish political leaders, as well as parapolice networks within the framework of the so-called 'Operation Catalonia'.

But when it was debated in plenary, already in September, the PSOE presented an amendment not to limit the investigation to that plot but to extend it to the irregularities of the Interior during the PP government and pending fringes of the 'Kitchen' operation, which was already subject of a specific commission of investigation.
