Feijóo asks Sánchez to "stop making jokes" about Israel and Palestine and "not create a diplomatic conflict"

MADRID, 26 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has asked the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to "stop making jokes" about Israel and Palestine and "not to create a diplomatic conflict in the context of a war conflict."

"Unfortunately, today Spain is a less reliable country internationally and today we have an absolutely eccentric foreign policy where we do not distinguish between respect for the Palestinian people and condemnation of the terrorist group Hamas," Feijóo lamented in statements to the media alongside the president. of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid PP, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, at the Christmas tree in the Plaza Mayor.

This is how he responded when questioned about the diplomatic crisis between Spain and Israel, after during a visit to the Middle East Sánchez opened the door to unilaterally recognizing Palestine if other European partners do not commit to coordinated recognition. Together with the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander de Croo, Sánchez showed his rejection of the Hamas offensive and also denounced the indiscriminate death of civilians by the Israeli counteroffensive.

In this context, Feijóo has condemned that Sánchez has "broken the consensus" of all previous Spanish governments in relation to this conflict and has disgraced that a terrorist organization like Hamas has congratulated him and his Government. "It is evident that we do not see ourselves reflected in the foreign policy of this Government," the PP leader stated in this regard.

Likewise, he has highlighted that Sánchez "has not consulted with anyone" about his position, a "unilaterality" that he has also described as an "occurrence." Thus, he has urged Sánchez to "comment to his EU colleagues if he agrees" and clarify "if he is going to break diplomatic relations with Israel", which he considers that Sánchez has "disrespected" with the position of the.

"Spain has lost international prestige and our reputation today is worse than 48 years ago," added Feijóo, who has also called on the entire Executive to make "an express statement on the condemnation of Hamas terrorism."
