El Bribón goes sailing without Juan Carlos I on board shortly before the start of the Copa del Rey de Vela in Sanxenxo

SANXENXO (PONTEVEDRA), 22 Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Bribón 500 went sailing this Saturday around 12:40 p.m., a few minutes before the official start of the first regatta of the Copa del Rey de Vela that is being held this weekend in Sanxenxo. She has done it without the emeritus king on board, despite the fact that he was expected to act as skipper.

After leaving the boat, the former monarch has left the vicinity of the marina in the municipality of Pontevedra, also without stopping at the Club Náutico.

Rumors have circulated throughout the morning of a possible suspension or postponement of the races due to adverse weather conditions (especially due to the waves), but finally the organization has decided to start the regatta.

There will be eight teams and seven in competition with José Cusí's Rascal defending the overall leadership against his main rival, Titia.

The former monarch arrived this Saturday at the Sanxenxo marina around 11:15 a.m. to start the sailing day, although the start of the tests was not scheduled until 1:00 p.m.

After 11:00 a.m., the former monarch was leaving the house of his host, Pedro Campos, who was driving the vehicle in which they entered directly to the port breakwater.

In the co-driver's seat, the king emeritus greeted the press gathered in the vicinity of the club but, one more day, he has not made any statements.

Back at the dock, Don Juan Carlos remained inside the car while the crew tuned up the Bribón and while the organization made a decision regarding the test.

Around 12:40 p.m., the Bribón has gone out to sail but without Don Juan Carlos on board.
