Dimiten 13 leaders of Podemos Cataluña after being dismissed for defending "unity" with Sumar

The Podem executive opened a precautionary expulsion file on Friday for these 13 members

BARCELONA, Nov. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) -

A total of 13 members of the management and executive of Podem Catalunya have resigned this Tuesday after being charged for defending "unity" with Sumar in June, at which time there was a debate about whether or not Podemos would join the project led by Yolanda Diaz.

In a statement consulted by Europa Press, the 13 members explain that they have been aware of the "initiation of a file and the precautionary suspension of militancy" by the party executive of these 13 people who signed the manifesto.

The 13 members who have resigned are Podem spokesperson and former member of the Commons in Parliament, Lucas Ferro; the deputy of the commons in Parliament Yolanda López, and the members of the executive and management Marcos Galante, Laura Alzamora, Raquel Vernedas, Sarai Martínez, Loren Rider, Xavier Navarro, Ramón Espejo, Marta Gómez, David Pequeno, Rosa Trenado and Gerard Bargallo.

"We want to express our disagreement with this decision that seeks to censor the debate on the unity of the space of change. We understand that the appeal to unity is consistent with the political and organizational commitment assumed by the current management of Podem," they lamented in the statement. .

Sources consulted by Europa Press have explained that the executive of Podem Catalunya presented this Friday the initiation of a file and requested the precautionary suspension of militancy of these 13 members, but did not communicate it to them.

They have regretted that a policy of "faits accompli" is taking place, since despite not having yet expelled them from the formation, because the party's Guarantees Commission must study the case, they have already been removed from the organization's groups.

In the statement, which they have also sent to the other members of the leadership, they criticize that this expulsion file "is the breaking of the leadership's commitment to this unit and an indication of the militants" who have opted for it.

They have also claimed the construction of the political space of En Comú Podem (ECP), "the fruit of unity" and through which candidacies have been reached for the last municipal elections, for which Podem and Catalunya en Comú announced that they were running together under the ECP brand.

The same sources have also regretted that a "roadmap for rupture in space" is being established, they have opted to work from the grassroots militancy to expand and strengthen the project, and they have described the decision to expel them as harmful to Podem and They believe that it dwarfs the project and the commitment of the majority of its militants.
