Death toll rises to three after two shootings at the hands of a university student in the Netherlands

At least three people died this Thursday after a 32-year-old student dressed in a military uniform entered an apartment building in the Dutch city of Rotterdam and a nearby university hospital armed.

The suspect, who acted alone, broke into one of the homes, at gunpoint, killing a 39-year-old woman and seriously injuring her 14-year-old daughter, who subsequently died, as detailed by the Police.

Next, the alleged shooter, who has a criminal record for animal abuse, fled after setting fire to the building and went to the Erasmus MC university hospital, one kilometer away.

The shooter entered the hospital facilities shortly after, partially evacuated by the authorities during the event, claiming a third victim, a 46-year-old teacher, as reported by the NOS network.

The first investigations indicate that the man threw a Molotov cocktail at the medical center. The Police have opened an investigation to determine the motives of the perpetrator, identified as a student at the Erasmus MC university hospital and already detained.

"My thoughts are with the victims of violence, with their loved ones and with all the people who have gone through this great fear," said the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, on the social network Twitter.
