Charges against Mason Greenwood of attempted rape and assault are dropped

MADRID, 2 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The English soccer player Mason Greenwood was acquitted of the charges of rape and assault that weighed on him since last October, in the trial in which he has been involved since he was arrested in January 2022 and separated from Manchester United.

On January 30 last year, police arrested the then Premier League player and English international amid an investigation into allegations of assault and rape by his girlfriend Harriet Robson.

Robson published on social networks some images of her covered in bruises and blows, bleeding on her face and denouncing the treatment received by Greenwood. The charges against the 21-year-old striker, who was immediately removed by United, emerged in October: attempted rape, controlling conduct and assault.

A year later, this Thursday, the head of social affairs of the Manchester Police, Michaela Kerr, announced in a statement the end of the legal proceedings against Greenwood, a decision that she said "has not been taken lightly", recalling the commitment police to investigate complaints of violence against women and girls and supporting those affected.
