The first vice president and acting minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, has supported and encouraged the "constructive" agreements, asked, specifically, about the possibility of a Franco-German pact on the margins of the meeting of ministers of Economy and Finance this Tuesday to unblock the clash between both countries and thus facilitate the agreement of the Twenty-Seven of the new fiscal rules before the end of the year.

"I support and encourage all exchanges that can provide a constructive approach," said Calviño upon his arrival at the Ecofin held in the Luxembourg capital in reference to a possible bilateral agreement between countries with opposing positions.

This was indicated after the French minister of the sector, Bruno Le Maire, has expressed his intention to meet with his German counterpart, Christian Lindner, to find a common position that will allow the political debate to advance.

Le Maire has urged his colleagues to reach an agreement "quickly" because he considers that the "credibility" of the EU is at stake with the first "concrete progress" at the meeting on November 9 and the conclusion of an agreement to end of 2023.

To this end, he has proposed continuing to advance "hand in hand" in an alliance between Paris and Berlin to close a bilateral agreement that can serve as the basis for the global pact of the Twenty-Seven.

The calendar now managed by the Spanish presidency of the Council delays to November - although it was initially scheduled for the current October meeting - its objective of starting the negotiation on the legislative text in the next Ecofin.

Diplomatic sources have assured that the presidency "does not contemplate a scenario without an agreement" and that it is willing to do "whatever is necessary on its part", also considering the possibility of holding meetings of additional ministers to close the agreement "as soon as possible." possible".
