Belarra replies that asking Israel to comply with international law "is useless" and demands sanctions

MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The general secretary of Podemos and acting minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, has replied that asking Israel to comply with an international law "that it despises is useless" and has demanded that the Israeli prime minister be "stopped" , Benjamin Netanyahu, with exemplary economic sanctions and arms embargo.

"Israel has demonstrated in these weeks an absolute lack of humanity. Asking Netanyahu to comply with an international law that he despises is of no use. What must be done is to stop him with exemplary economic sanctions and an arms embargo," demanded the general secretary of Podemos.

This message comes precisely after this Sunday the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart in which he reiterated his condemnation of the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel, recognizing its right to defend itself "within the limits of international and humanitarian law."

Likewise, he expressed his "deep concern" for the protection of all civilians and the need for humanitarian aid to reach the population of Gaza in a "sufficient and sustained" manner, thus appealing for a "humanitarian ceasefire."
