At least seven people have disappeared after floods caused by the destruction of the New Kajovka Dam, on the Dnieper River and 60 kilometers from the Ukrainian city of Jerson.

"Now we are looking for information about the missing, but preliminarily these people were also evacuated from the floodplains that ceased to exist. There were shepherds there... About seven people we know for sure," said the pro-Russian mayor of the town, Vladimir Leontiev. , according to the Russian agency Interfax.

According to the mayor, rescue teams are "circling" these territories and, although the water level is still "very significant", the water level in the city has begun to drop.

Some 900 people have been evacuated from these territories and 17 have been rescued from roofs, as the water has reached 12 meters in height. Authorities have predicted that the water level will begin to drop within three days.
