Albares: "We are not in a diplomatic conflict with Brazil at all"

He asks to go "to the last consequences" in the case of Vinicius and says that "Spanish society rejects racism head-on"

The Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, has assured that "we are not in a situation of diplomatic conflict at all" with Brazil over the Vinicius case, at the same time that he has advocated going "to the last consequences" against racism in football.

This was stated at a press conference in Valencia, when asked about the call that the Brazilian government made this Monday to its ambassador in Spain after the racist insults to the Real Madrid player in Sunday's game against Valencia CF at Mestalla.

Albares has confirmed the call made this Monday by representatives of Brazil to its ambassador in Spain, who has stressed that it was made "in a diplomatic tone". "We are not in a situation of conflict at all from the diplomatic point of view," he stressed.

In addition, he stressed that "acting is being done very quickly" in this case, given the arrests that took place this Tuesday. "The judges will have to decide, but we hope to go to the last consequences against these people," he asserted.

"In any case, racism is a despicable attitude," he added, after which he called for "zero tolerance" for this type of attitude and has guaranteed that the Government of Spain is "very clear" in condemning them.

The head of Foreign Affairs has defended that racism is incompatible with the values of sport and that it is something that the vast majority of Spaniards support: "Spanish society rejects racism head-on."
