Abascal supports Feijóo in the face of the "coup threat" from Moncloa and hopes that it will serve to establish "the resistance"

He understands that Feijóo's offer for an agreement between PP and PSOE would be "the lesser evil" and Vox would not oppose it, but he does not see it as feasible

The president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has confirmed his support for the investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo because, although he maintains "big differences" with the PP, he believes that Spain is experiencing a moment of "democratic exception" and "threat of a coup" since Moncloa if Pedro Sánchez finally reissues his government with the support of the independentistas.

And although he knows that the inauguration has little chance of prospering, he hopes that it will at least "lay the foundations of resistance" to what lies ahead.

After meeting in Congress for an hour and a quarter with Núñez Feijóo, Abascal stated in a press conference that Spain faces "a historic threat to the Constitution and to coexistence between Spaniards." "It is a situation of national exception and democratic exception," he maintains.

He refers to the fact that the PSOE is going to negotiate its continuity with the pro-independence parties and that it is even willing to reach agreements with Carles Puigdemont, whom it considers "a fugitive who does not face justice" and "a criminal who has committed the worst crimes", since it steals something "immaterial" such as national unity and coexistence among Spaniards.

"We Spaniards suffered a blow to the Constitution and to national unity in 2017 and we fear that this blow, if the investiture of Pedro Sánchez is achieved, will be perpetrated from Moncloa," he stated.

Nor has he wanted to analyze in detail the conditions that Puigdemont has announced to support the investiture, and has insisted that the leader of Junts behaves like "a blackmailer" asking that "the Constitution be repealed and that the equality of Spaniards be trampled on, proposing a pardon for a series of people who have committed very serious crimes".

This being the case, and in this context of "historical threat", he sees it as "essential" to put the interest of Spain before any party consideration, and for this reason he has transferred to Feijóo his intention to support him in the investiture debate of the next September 26 and 27.

"I have told him that Vox will support his investiture as an alternative to the embarrassment of seeing the separatist parties auction off the nation in an immodest way," he emphasized.

NOW "IT'S NOT TIME" TO TALK ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PP AND VOX

Abascal has insisted that there are "big differences" between the PP and Vox, but he also acknowledges that there is "a new stage of understanding" that has been reflected in government agreements in half a dozen communities and dozens of town halls.

"At this moment these differences do not touch because the Government of Pedro Sánchez, even in office, is capable of embarrassing and frightening and intimidating the Spanish, as it did yesterday by having the vice president (Yolanda Díaz) meet with a fugitive from justice", he reiterated.

Of course, Abascal acknowledges that they are not "unwary" and that they know that, according to the positions announced by the different parliamentary groups, the investiture of Feijóo has little chance of prospering, but at least he believes that "it will help prepare the resistance to the coup that is prepared from Moncloa".

As for Nuñez Feijóo's attempt to seek the support of the PSOE, he does not believe that it is a realistic scenario but, in any case, he wanted to make it clear that an agreement between the two majority parties to avoid the separatists would be "the lesser evil". and Vox would not prevent it: "If that possibility existed, and I understand that it is very difficult, Vox would certainly not be an obstacle."

Another thing is the PP's plan to include Junts in its round of contacts, something that "worries" him, especially when he is convinced that "Junts' path is impossible", and this has been transferred to Feijóo.
