19 die in Legionella outbreak in Poland

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A total of 19 people have died from a legionella outbreak in the region of the Polish city of Rzeszów, in the southeast of the country, according to health authorities.

All the deceased suffered from previous ailments, the city's Department of Health has highlighted, which estimates 160 people infected with the bacteria, of which 107 correspond to the city of Rzeszów.

The city has a population of about 196,000 and is about 250 kilometers south of Warsaw, near the Ukrainian border.

Legionella causes flu-like symptoms and severe pneumonia and is commonly spread through water spray such as showers, humidifiers, or the water system. High temperatures also favor their presence.
