The Intelligence Service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has assured this Thursday that more than 8,000 Wagner Group fighters have participated at some point in the invasion that is close to completing eight months since it was announced by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, under the epigraph of “special operation”.

“More than 8,000 mercenaries of the Wagner Group are involved in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. Most of the units are currently located in the areas along the front line of battle,” says kyiv.

“Most of the personnel of these assault units consists of mercenaries recruited from the prison population,” says the message made public by the Intelligence Service through its Telegram channel.

In this sense, the Ukrainian authorities have explained that to avoid personnel shortages, the Wagner Group is urgently carrying out training tasks for “several hundred mercenaries” from among its prisoners “to be sent to the war zone “.

According to kyiv, since mid-summer, Russia has sent at least 15,130 of its prisoners to war with Ukraine, a maneuver that Ukraine has also adopted in exchange for commuting the sentences of those who volunteer to fight.
