BARCELONA, July 24. (EUROPEAN PRESS) -

The Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), celebrated this Sunday his victory in the Tour de France by reaching the last stage on the Champs-Elysées, a victory in the "best race that can be won" and that "nobody" can remove the yellow jersey from the 109th edition of the gala round.

"I have finally won the Tour de France, nothing can go wrong now. Now I am sitting here with my daughter in my arms, and the feeling is incredible. It is the greatest race in the world, the best thing that can be won, it is already mine and no one can take it away from me," said the Dane after crossing the finish line in Paris.

Vingegaard, who dethroned two-time Tour champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), said he "always" had a feeling he could take victory. "But I think that when I started to believe it was after Hautacam, when I realized that something had to go very wrong for me not to win," he added.

"It has been incredible to see so many Danes who have come here to Paris in the gutter and on the Champs-Élysées to see me ride in the yellow jersey. I want to thank all the fans who have supported me throughout these three weeks" , pointed out the 25-year-old runner, who reissued Miguel Indurain's milestone in 1992, by winning the 'Grande Boucle' that started from his country, beyond the French themselves.

The Dane thanked his team, who had won six stages and three jerseys, including the yellow one, the one for the mountain classification -both from Vingegaard- and the one for points won by Wout van Aert, "the best runner of the world" for the winner of the Tour.

"The victory will be celebrated on Tuesday in the Netherlands, on Wednesday in Copenhagen, on Thursday in my city and, starting on Friday, I will spend a whole week without moving from the sofa," he concluded.
