MADRID, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said it is too early to determine who could be behind the apparent sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline and has stressed the need for a "full investigation".

"There's a lot of speculation right now, but frankly, until there's a full investigation, no one can say for sure what happened," Austin said.

Thus, he has highlighted that he has addressed the situation with Denmark and that his Danish counterpart, Morten Bodskov, has told him that "many days" will be necessary until the situation can be analyzed and what happened determined. "We will not speculate on who could be responsible," he stressed.

The operator of the Nord Stream, Nord Stream AG, said on Tuesday that the damage suffered by three of the pipes late on Monday was "unprecedented", following a gas leak in one of the sections of Nord Stream 2 and a pressure loss in the Nord Stream 1. A fourth leak was detected on Thursday.
