The report of the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Seville, on the illness of the former socialist president of the Junta José Antonio Griñán, indicates that the treatment of cancer that he suffers needs "close monitoring" and reiterates that it is "little compatible with life in prison".
Griñán was sentenced to six years and one day in jail for the specific procedure for financing fraudulent employment regulation files (ERE). The forensic report was requested to find out whether or not the former Andalusian president can continue in prison the treatment he has left for the prostate cancer he suffers from and that he alleges to request the suspension of his prison sentence, after having concluded his radiotherapy sessions .
This report derives from the visit made on May 18 by Griñán to the IML of Seville, in the Courts of the Prado of San Sebastián, at the request of the First Section of the Court of Seville. This judicial body, after the former president's defense alleged prostate cancer to request the suspension of his prison sentence, last January postponed its decision on whether to grant said suspension or maintain the requirement of voluntary admission to prison, until Griñán had finished his initial radiotherapy treatment.

In the new report issued by the Institute of Legal Medicine of Seville after the visit made to it by Griñán on May 18, it is stated that the radiotherapy sessions ended on March 29, informing that the patient is currently facing "effects side effects" due to the treatment, which make a close treatment "essential" of them.
The document goes on to explain that the former president continues "in hormonal treatment and pending medical check-ups in June and September, for the assessment of his illness and in this sense it is necessary to see if his evolution is favorable or unfavorable", because at this time "he is He doesn't know what stage he is in."
At that point, the Institute of Legal Medicine recovers in its new document a paragraph from its report from last January, after which the Court deferred its decision on whether or not to suspend the prison sentence until the end of the radiotherapy; according to which "the side effects of hormonal treatment and radiotherapy, as well as the frequent check-ups to which he must undergo, seem incompatible with life in prison".
"A VERY SERIOUS ILLNESS PERSISTS"
For the Institute of Legal Medicine, said premise "remains valid", since the consideration of "a very serious disease, pending evolution" persists and Griñán faces "side effects" of his treatment, "in addition to the possible appearance of other new derivatives of the disease or of the treatments applied".
Within this framework, the forensic report explains that the treatment of the disease and its side effects require "close surveillance", while the Seville Penitentiary Center has notified that for such cases it must resort to "external hospital services" and He has highlighted before the Seville Court itself the "difficulties for transfer in emergency situations and even in the face of scheduled departures from said center".
A DISEASE THAT NEEDS "ALL THE RESOURCES"
Likewise, the report rescues another of the fragments of his initial pronouncement in January, after which the Court postponed its decision as has been indicated; according to which "a disease of this entity needs all the resources available to the person in these circumstances", expressly alluding to "social and family support".
Not in vain, the Institute of Legal Medicine informs the Court, expressly, that in this case weighs "a physical and mental affectation of his condition, closely related to his age and his personal situation."
Given this new report from the Institute of Legal Medicine, the First Section of the Court of Seville has forwarded the document to the parties to the legal proceedings, the Prosecutor's Office and the Andalusian PP, so that they issue their corresponding report, in order to adopt a new decision on whether to grant suspension of prison sentence or maintain the initial requirement of voluntary imprisonment.
