MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The soldier allegedly executed in eastern Ukraine by Russian soldiers has been definitively identified as Oleksander Matsievskyi, a citizen with nationality of Moldova, according to the Government of this country, who has denounced what he considers a “war crime” and a violation of international law.

The scene, recorded on video and broadcast on the Internet, has become a symbol of the abuses perpetrated by Russian forces in the last week. Matsievskyi was executed after proclaiming ‘Glory to Ukraine’ and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has awarded him posthumous ‘hero’ recognition.

The Ukrainian security services have assured that it is a sniper of its Armed Forces, although they have informed neighboring Moldova that it is of Moldovan origin. “We reiterate the firm position of the Republic of Moldova to condemn the brutal war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Moldovan government has confirmed that it will continue to work with kyiv to try to achieve peace and stability in the entire region.
