Industrial production in Germany registered a drop of 0.8% in July compared to the previous month, six tenths less than what fell in June, but deepened its year-on-year decline to 2.1%, compared to 1.5% of the previous month, as reported this Thursday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Between May and July, the industrial production of the ‘European locomotive’ was 1.9% lower than that of the three previous months.

In July 2023, industry production excluding energy and construction was down 1.8% from the previous month, while capital goods production was down 2.9%; that of consumer goods 1% and that of intermediate goods, 0.7%.

Outside industry, energy production rose 2.2% in July, while construction production rose 2.6%.

In year-on-year terms (July 2023 compared to the same month in 2022), industrial production decreased by 2.1%, while industrial production, excluding energy and construction, decreased by 1.3%.

Production in energy-intensive industrial branches fell 0.6% monthly in July and plummeted 11.4% year-on-year, according to data from the German statistical agency.
