Doge Day Now and Then: There is a lackluster buzz as Dogecoin's price is 65% lower than last year

Although April 20 (or 420) is often associated with cannabis culture, many dogecoin supporters consider the day "Doge Day."

On Twitter the day before, Billy Markus, co-founder of Doge Network, asked what people should expect for Doge Day as well as dogecoin price action. Dogecoin traded hands for $0.44 per unit 12 months ago on Doge Day, and today the meme-based cryptocurrency asset is down 65.3%.

Doge Day was last year and Dogecoin saw a price increase of 18,299%.

The popular meme-token DOGE saw incredible gains last year. Statistic shows that DOGE rose 18,299% in 12 months against the U.S. Dollar. DOGE was very close to $0.50 as April 20th, also known as Doge Day. DOGE's year-to-date metrics show that it is down 65.3%, despite having gained 19.2% in the past 30 days. DOGE also hit an all-time high of $0.731 per unit last May, 2021 just after last year’s Doge Day. DOGE's value has fallen 80.7% against the U.S. Dollar since that date.

Doge Day 2021 was quite different as the meme token dogecoin received a lot of attention. Ellen Degeneres , a popular talk show host, spoke about dogecoin that April with Mark Cuban, a billionaire investor and Shark Tank star. One dogecoin investor said that he became a millionaire in just two months. After DOGE hit new highs in April, another dogecoin investor gave her gains away to a Florida dog shelter.

Although 2022's Doge Day may be lackingluster, Dogecoin is still a top 20 crypto asset and the largest meme-based digital currency today

The hype around the meme-based crypto and dogecoin markets this year has been very lackluster in comparison to last year. Co-founder of DOGE, Billy Markus asked via Twitter: "Question:] What should we expect tomorrow for dogecoin price actions?" [Answer] "Nothing." Later that day, Markus tweeted: Happy Doge Day! Although there were many dogecoin enthusiasts who tweeted celebratory remarks about Doge Day (which was a lot), the day's buildup was not as intense as it was in 2021.

Dogecoin, which is a meme-based cryptocurrency asset with $18.8 million in market capitalization, remains the largest. DOGE is also the 12th most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization among the 13,671 currently in existence. A multitude of meme-based crypto assets have been created, with a current value of $34.4 billion. These included the top meme cryptos, including dogelon mars and shiba (SHIB), floki inu ("FLOKI"), and baby doge coin (“BABYDOGE”).
